Mohamed Salah was a relatively unknown name at the time, but what convinced Chelsea to sign him was his performances against Chelsea itself. He was on target in both legs against them for Basel in the Champions League, and was signed in January 2014.
Salah played only 10 times in the Premier League for the remainder of that season, mostly coming off the bench. His goals against Arsenal and Stoke City were the only notable involvements, but the Egyptian's circumstances turned worse in the following campaign.
With the arrival of Didier Drogba and Diego Costa, he was increasingly marginalised, while Mourinho's public lambasting of his performance against Shrewsbury Town in October proved to be the final straw.
Salah was eventually loaned to Fiorentina in the following winter transfer window, and his stock has gone through the roof ever since. After successful stints with them and then AS Roma, he returned to the British shores with Liverpool in 2017, and the rest, as we all know, is history.
