Borussia Dortmund were knocked out in the round of 16 last season, with a 5 - 1 aggregate defeat to eventual runners-up, Juventus. A poor domestic season also meant that BVB didn't qualify for the competition this year, after Jurgen Klopp's men struggled to find any form until February. Rooted to the the bottom of the table on January 31st, it was a miracle that Dortmund even qualified for the Europa League, shooting 11 places up the table in the remaining 15 games. During this run, Klopp announced that he would be departing BVB at the end of the season, after seven years in charge of the club, leaving Tomas Tuchel to take the reigns for the 2015-16 season.

At the time of writing, Dortmund have been able to keep hold of their big players, even despite heavy interest from Champions League teams. Manchester United and Real Madrid have been linked with moves for Hummels and Reus in the last couple of months, but Tuchel will be hoping he can keep hold of the big names and challenge Bayern and Wolfsburg at the right end of the table again.

Dortmund have shown in recent seasons that they can compete with the best, having eased past Barca on the way to the final two years ago, but Tuchel really does have it all to do to keep his squad together.
