8 Everton Players Who Won Trophies After Leaving Goodison
3. Nick Barmby
Another player on this list to leave Everton and play for rivals Liverpool; Nick Barmby enjoyed greater success in the red of Liverpool than the royal blue of Everton. When he signed for the Anfield club in July 2000, he became the first player since striker Dave Hickson to be sold by Everton to Liverpool, although six players had moved in the opposite direction in the 41-year gap. He originally joined the Blues from Middlesbrough in a record £5.75 million pound deal. He would spend most of his time at the club fighting relegation, with only his final season one where he would not be injured for large periods. He missed just one game in that final season, scoring nine goals in the process and helping the Blues finish 13th in the table. His final record stands at 114 games and 18 goals before heading to Liverpool for a fee of £6million in July 2000. Manchester United also wanted him at the time, but Liverpool eventually outbid their northwest rivals for his services. Instant success followed for Barmby at Liverpool, as he was involved in the clubs highly successful 2000-01 season in which they won the treble of FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup under Gérard Houllier. During that period he scored against former club Everton in the Merseyside derby and scored a penalty kick in the penalty shootout against Birmingham City in the League Cup. He later joined Leeds United and the Hull City, who he managed for a short period also.
