8 Football Teams Which Went The Whole Season Undefeated

6. Arsenal (2003 - 04)

When you consider the highly competitive nature of England’s top flight – it’s probably the most competitive league in Europe – Arsenal’s achievement in the 2003/04 season becomes even more awe-inspiring. To win the Premier League undefeated is a feat we may never see again but it is exactly what Arsenal did during that campaign, getting their hands on the trophy with an unbelievable record of 26 wins and 12 draws.

Unlike many of their contemporaries, Arsenal didn’t buy their way to league, with the financial demands of the Etihad Stadium eating into Arsene Wenger’s transfer budget. The biggest addition to their first team during the summer transfer window was goalkeeper Jens Lehmann whom they purchased for a modest £1.5 million from Borussia Dortmund. Lehmann went on to play in every league game that season. Instead, stability was the winning formula with new contracts for top players like Patrick Vieira and Robert Pirès.

And though they fared less favourably in cup competition, losing in the semi-finals of the FA and League Cups, and dropping out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, the 2003/04 season will surely live long in Gunners fans’ memories as one of the greatest in their club’s history.
