8 Greatest 30-Somethings In World Football Right Now

8. Philipp Lahm

Philipp Lahm has been a magnificent player throughout the last decade or so, and remains the greatest full-back on the planet (when he plays there). At 31, he is still performing to perfection for Bayern Munich, and there is no sign of him slowing up any time soon. The German legend has won everything there is to win in the game, whether it be the Bundesliga or Champions League with Bayern, or the European Championships or World Cup for Germany. He was exceptional as his country lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy in Brazil in the summer, whether it be in midfield or at right-back. Pep Guardiola's decision to turn the 31-year-old into a holding midfielder has proved to be absolutely inspired, and he has adjusted to his new role magnificently over the last 12 months or so. He uses the ball superbly, reads the game to perfection and is a wonderful team player. For Guardiola to call him the most intelligent player he has ever worked with speaks volumes. By the time Lahm hangs up his boots, he will deservedly be regarded as one of the greatest full-backs in history.
