8 Newcastle United Players Fighting For New Contracts
2. Adam Campbell
When Adam Campbell first broke into the Newcastle first-team as a 17-year-old against Atromitos in the Europa League back in August 2012, big things were expected of the North Shields-born forward. Following five appearances during his first season, Campbell was then loaned out to Carlisle United, St Mirren, Fleetwood Town, Hartlepool United and latterly Gateshead - and he has only really just started to discover some goal-scoring form. Four goals in five appearances for Gateshead is a good record, but six in 29 appearances throughout his career is only average. To be fair on Campbell his development was arguably hindered by Newcastle themselves as they probably threw him in too quickly and expected far too much of a striker who scored goals for fun as a youngster - but the club will be taking a big risk offering the 20-year-old a new contract considering he has yet to set the world alight. Verdict: Less than 25% chance of being offered a new deal. Newcastle are probably to blame for stunting his development, but they would be taking a punt on him ever making the step up if they do extend his deal.
