Much like France, Portugal's path to qualification for the World Cup suggests that they won't be making too many waves over in Brazil. They finished second in their qualifying group, where they failed to topple Russia, who finished top of the pile. That sent the Portuguese into the play-offs, and although they beat Sweden 4-2, they really shouldn't have been forced to go down that route in the first place. There will be plenty expected of Portugal, who somehow sit fourth in FIFA's World Rankings. That is largely down to talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, who the spotlight will be on when they play their group games. However, there is very little in terms of world class talent - at least any that stacks up alongside Ronaldo - when it comes to the rest of the squad, and expecting too much from one man is never a good plan for a major tournament. Even though they have arguably the best player in the world in their ranks, do not expect too much from Portugal when it comes to this year's World Cup.
