8 Players Manchester City Could Sign This Summer

3. Jordi Alba

Full backs play a key role in a Pep Guardiola team. They are almost like secondary wingers, given the licence to drive forward and support the attack as much as possible. They must also have great pace to ensure they can get back in position if the attack breaks down and the opposition attempts to hit them on the break. Pablo Zabaleta's position at right back looks safe. He is one of the best full backs in England, with his ability to attack and defend putting him head and shoulders above the rest. At left back however, City could see a change in personnel. Kolarov can attack but lacks pace. Clichy is solid in defence but does not possess the attacking attributes of the Serbian. Why not find someone who can do both? Enter Jordi Alba. Although Alba never played under Guardiola at Barcelona, the brand of football has not moved too far away since his departure in 2012. At 27, the Spanish left back is in his prime and having achieved all there is to achieve in Spain, Alba may see a move to Manchester as the next challenge in his career.
