Steve McClaren has not been able to use Fabricio Coloccini during Newcastle United's pre-season campaign as the Argentine has been suffering from a
sore Achilles (either that or an unbelievably strong urge to leave the club). This would mean that he would need to play a handful of competitive fixtures before he would be operating at his highest level (something that we have already established isn't good enough anyway) and reach something even close to match fitness. Time is not something Newcastle have on their hands with the new Premier League season almost upon us - so Coloccini cannot be given it to reach peak fitness.
