8 Reasons Why Newcastle Should Sell Fabricio Coloccini

3. He Certainly Should Not Be The Captain

Fabricio Coloccini hasn't demonstrated the leadership qualities that make him indispensable as captain of the club and I believe that Newcastle United should start their 2015-16 campaign with a new man wearing the armband. Steve McClaren admitted during his interview with BBC Newcastle that the captaincy was "one for debate" and that he always knew there was a "question mark" hanging over the role. The Argentine remained as gutless as John Carver when it came to taking responsibility for a number of shambolic performances last season and has on a number of occasions expressed his desire to leave St James' Park. Newcastle have recruited Georginio Wijnaldum this summer who was PSV Eindhoven's captain last year and also have experienced first-team players such as Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback and Tim Krul who could easily step up to the mark (and who are more far more valuable to the side). This season is all about Newcastle United establishing themselves as a freshly rejuvenated footballing unit and appointing a new captain is essential if they're going to achieve that goal.
