8. Steven Gerrard To Join Man Utd
With each passing transfer window invariably comes one or two bonkers rumours, and perhaps the most ridiculous deal Manchester United have been linked with in recent years is signing Steven Gerrard from Liverpool. In 2005, Gerrard was seriously toying with the idea of leaving Anfield, and both United and Chelsea were interested. Sir Alex Ferguson once revealed he tried to bring the Englishman to Old Trafford, but Gerrard declined - probably because a hoard of furious Kopites would lob bricks through his window and burn effigies of him in the streets of Merseyside every other bonfire night if he hadn't. A one club man, it seems completely inconceivable now that Gerrard would have ever considered leaving Liverpool - least of all for Manchester United. That would be akin to Ryan Giggs going to play for Man City. Oh wait, he nearly did.
