Drink it in. O Fenomeno was rumoured to be ready to sign for the Gers after leaving Barcelona in 1997. In partnership with massive sports brand and new Rangers kit supplier Nike, the club were laying the groundwork to bring the Brazilian in to as the biggest signing in their history. The story is mostly lost to rumour and conjecture but the story goes that Nike were willing to pay a significant chunk of his transfer fee and wages in order to grow Rangers' brand within the Champions League. As for Ronaldo, the story goes that he was told he would only have to turn up for Champions League matches and Old Firm derbies. Any hope that Kilmarnock fans had of seeing him single handedly destroy them at Rugby Park would have been up in smoke before he'd even arrived at the airport.
