Having won just three of his 20 matches in charge of Newcastle, John Carver was sacked to make way for Steve McClaren's arrival in June. His assistant Steve Stone was also shown the door as the Magpies decided they needed a clean break from the previous coaching regime - and Newcastle supporters were not sorry to see them go. Although passionate and dedicated, the pair were quite-frankly clueless when given the added responsibility in the second-half of last season. They will not be around to influence matters - in a positive or negative sense - during pre-season.
