A consistent goalscorer can be a difference maker in a team's success when competing in the Premier League. Similarly, having forwards that couldn’t hit a barn door with a shovel can have a catastrophic effect on a team’s success and league position. In extreme cases, teams can drop out of the league entirely if their strike force is out of form.

With this being said, former Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland star Andy Gray is technically the worst striker in Premier League history.

In his 51 Premier League appearances, Gray converted just one goal, meaning he averaged a mere 0.03 goals per game. To put this into perspective, Gray would have to play roughly 8,000 Premier League matches (210 seasons) to tie with Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal scoring tally.

Gray’s only goal in the Premier League came for Sunderland in 2005 against Charlton Athletic, in what was his debut match for the Black Cats.

*This record only includes forwards or attacking players who have played 50 Premier League matches or more.
