All 21 Geordies Who Have Played For Newcastle In The Premier League

6. Shola Ameobi

Born: Zaria, Nigeria (raised in Fenham) Newcastle United: 2000-14 Position: Forward Premier League Appearances: 294 Premier League Goals: 43 The "Fenham Eusebio", Shola Ameobi may have been born in Zaria, Nigera, and may have represented the country of his birth on 10 occasions, but he was raised in Fenham and speaks with a Geordie accent. A former 20-cap England Under-21 international, Ameobi made 294 Premier League appearances for Newcastle between 2000 and 2014. He returned 43 Premier League goals and became known as the "Mackem Slayer" due to his impressive scoring record of seven goals against Sunderland in Tyne-Wear derbies. Now a player at Crystal Palace, Shola was (and remains) a cult hero - if a frustrating figure - on Tyneside.
