1. The Winger
A winger does not necessarily have to be a player who only gets chalk on his boots from hugging the touchline all game by whipping in crosses. A winger is more advanced than a regular outside midfielder, and usually plays alongside the striker in a wider capacity as seen in a 4-3-3 formation. Naturally a winger is not always thought of as a pure goal scoring forward, but without a doubt the attributes of a winger make them extremely capable of being just that. As a winger you are traditionally expected to have pace not only to stretch the field, but also to get in behind the defensive line. Most wingers tend to be technically gifted, particularly in the skill department. Wingers will use their acceleration and tricks to get as far up the field as possible, but also they have the capacity to take the ball further inside. No player demonstrates this ability better than Cristiano Ronaldo. Known for his speed and flamboyance the Portuguese frontman is a goal scoring machine. Ronaldo tends to line up on the left-hand side of the pitch, but as he is right footed he is able to drift central to become an additional striker when he sees fit. The fact that he has scored 176 goals in three and half seasons at Real Madrid displays the effectiveness of a forward who can come in from the wing. Real Madrid's counter attacking style fits a player of Ronaldo's skill set perfectly. If played in the right system any type of forward can be successful, this simply proves there is more than one way to play it! Source(s):
