Arsenal: 10 Things Arsene Wenger Must Achieve Before 2017
6. Break The Bank For A Striker
Arsenal fans waited what seems a lifetime for Wenger to get his wallet out and spend some money on talent: and then two mega-stars come along within a year, as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez arrived at The Emirates with a price tag of £75m combined.
Sanchez is a quick, attacking-minded player who will contribute with Giroud and Ramsey in the goals department with 23 for Barcelona last season, nonetheless, Sanchez is not a natural striker who is neither an excellent poacher nor loves playing on the shoulder of the defender.
With the departure of Bendtner, Giroud is the only reliable striker Arsenal have, and he often looked fatigued last season as he carried the front line, with a lack of quality replacements to rotate. Sanogo featured in Arsenals crucial games last season against Bayern and the FA Cup Final, and though he is certainly one for the future, he missed a lot of chances a proven centre forward like Loic Remy would score. Meanwhile, World Cup star Joel Campbell returns from helping Cost Rica reach the quarter finals of the World Cup and Wenger may resort to nurturing him and selecting him for Capital One games.
With Giroud being a strong target man, Wenger needs to choose a fast centre forward who is a natural finisher. Loic Remy is linked with Arsenal and would be a good fit, but with Wenger hesitant to offer £15m to tempt the Frenchman away he may have to see another prospect escape his grasp, especially given his rumoured £80,000 a week wage demands.
