Arsenal: 5 Reasons The Gunners Can Still Win The Title
3. Dont Forget About Lukas Podolski
An awful lot has been said about Oliver Giroud and how Arsenal will regret the fact that they didnt acquire some cover for the French striker in the January window. There is the suggestion that if anything were to happen to him that they would then be relying on the services of Nicklas Bendtner. The Dane has certainly performed at times in an Arsenal shirt, but not often enough for the fans liking, certainly it would be a concern if he was the clubs only striking option between now and the end of the season. Nevertheless, he could certainly do a job against some of the lesser sides in the Premier League. What amazes me though is how rarely Lukas Podolski gets mentioned as a credible option to cover for Giroud if needs be. Here is a player that is still only 28 years old, has played over 100 times for Germany and made over 250 league games in his career; there is also the small matter of the 130+ goals that he has scored. Some people even consider him to be the best finished at the club, so I have heard. Commentators constantly refer to fact that Wenger prefers to use him on the left instead. Obviously, he has that option while Giroud is fit and playing so well, but make no mistake that he would be used as a striker if need be. Furthermore, I certainly wouldnt be betting against a team with Podolski leading their attack as potential winners of the EPL.
