Arsenal To Offer Arsene Wenger New Deal

The Sun, the Arsenal board are ready to offer Arsene Wenger a new contract at the Emirates, squashing rumours that the Frenchman doesn't have the backing of the club. The Gunners have been in the hands of manager Arsene Wenger ever since he signed for the club way back in 1996. The 63-year-old is the longest serving manager in the Premier League now that former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has retired. Despite both Manchester clubs and Chelsea having changed their manager this season, Arsenal are refusing to follow suit and are instead set to offer Wenger a new deal. Arsenal€™s chief executive Ivan Gazidis has hinted that the board back Wenger and that he will be offered an extension to his current deal soon:

€œWe hope that he wants to do what he is doing for the long term. I believe he does.€
He continued:
€œSo, quietly and at the right time I think we will make an announcement on that when things are all put in place.€
The Arsenal board and Wenger have received criticism from the fans for failing to replace players such as Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabergas, who have all departed from the Emirates in recent years. Arsenal have failed to win a trophy since their 2005 FA Cup trophy win over Manchester United, but Wenger is adamant that a top four finish is a trophy to Arsenal. Arsenal have finished in the top four in 17 consecutive seasons having won three premier league titles in that time.
