Arsenal Transfer News: Gonzalo Higuain Move Back On?

GonzaloHiguain Arsenal's hopes of signing Gonzalo Higuain improved last night after the Real Madrid striker stalled over his proposed move to Napoli, according to the Mirror. Higuain has asked for 48 hours to think through his next career move, after Rafa Benitez's new club had a £30 million bid for the Argentina international accepted. It is believed the 25-year-old prefers a move to North London rather than Naples however, but Arsenal's interest went cold after Madrid "moved the goalposts" by increasing the forward's market value. The Gunners were hoping to land Higuain in a £24 million deal but the Spanish giants demanded in excess of £30 million. Arsenal had accepted personal terms with the player but are not prepared to budge on their own valuation. It is believed manager Arsene Wenger will target Liverpool's Luis Suarez if Higuain's move to Napoli goes through, but Madrid could stand in the way of that transfer as well. If last season's La Liga runners-up can offload Higuain, they are expected to use the proceeds to fund a move for Suarez, who would prefer a move to the Spanish capital. That would leave Arsenal missing out on all three of their big summer targets with Manchester United's Wayne Rooney looking increasingly likely to join Chelsea.
