Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Activate Marouane Fellaini's £22 Million Release Clause

Goal.com, Arsenal have made an offer of £22 million for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, activating the player's release clause. Fellaini who had been rumoured to be linking up with David Moyes at Old Trafford, now looks like he could be on his way to the Emirates, if personal terms can be agreed. Goal believe the big money bid was made on Wednesday and that The Gunners are confident of landing their man. The 25-year-old Belgium international reportedly has a release clause of £22 million for top-four clubs and £24 million for any club that finishes outside the Champions League spot. The midfield joined Everton in 2008 from Standard Liege for a fee of £15 million and after agreeing a five-year extension in November 2011, the player is contracted to Everton until 2016, but a £22 million bid has allowed Arsenal to begin talking to the Belgian. Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has promised new boss Roberto Martinez that any income the club receives from transfers will be reinvested back into the team. Kenwright told the media his conversation with Martinez regarding the clubs transfer policy:

"He talked about a couple of new signings and he talked about the squad and asked 'Do they need to go?' "I said 'No, they absolutely do not have to go' (although) there is one (Fellaini) that has a get-out, which everyone knows."
