Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners To Make Late Move For Loic Remy?
Arsenal to make a late bid for Loic Remy?
Arsenal have emerged as late contenders for the signature of Marseilles striker Loic Remy, according to a report in the Independent. With Gervinho away on African Cup of Nations duty, the Gunners are short on attacking options and manager Arsene Wenger has now identified the 26-year old as the forward he needs as he bids to gatecrash the Premier League's top four. The race to finish in the top four this season has proven to be a fierce one, with Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton and Arsenal scrapping it out for Champions League contention. Wenger believes the capture of Remy would add quality and goals to his side as he seeks to overhaul his aforementioned rivals. Premier League rivals QPR and Newcastle were also thought to be interested in the Frenchman's signature, and Harry Redknapp, the QPR manager, even flew to France to watch the player in action last weekend. He was knocked back in his advances however when it became apparent that the player had no intentions of playing for the Premier League's basement side. Newcastle now face similar disappointment in their efforts to sign Remy, who has scored four times in 17 appearances for France, as they prepare to stand toe to toe with Arsenal for his signature. Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo recently stated that the player could join "a big side" if the offer came in, and the lure of playing Champions League football at the Emirates might now rule Newcastle out of contention.
