Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Want Seamus Coleman If Bacary Sagna Quits

When the tabloids talk of an Everton fullback leaving Goodison Park they are usually referring to Leighton Baines and a proposed transfer to Manchester United. Not today.

The Sunday People writes that Premier League leaders Arsenal are plotting an audacious swoop for Toffees and Republic of Ireland right back Seamus Coleman €“ if Bacary Sagna does not sign a new deal.

France defender Sagna, 30, is out of contract the Emirates this coming summer and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is anxious for him to commit his future to the club.

Should Sagna refuse to extend his stay at Arsenal, however, then the Londoners will turn to Coleman. Wenger will get a chance to see what his prospective new signing can do first hand on Sunday as Everton travel to the capital to face the Gunners.

Coleman, 25, has made the right back berth his own at the Toffees in recent seasons thanks to consistent and energetic displays. As he recently penned a new deal at Goodison Park, Coleman could cost Arsenal a reported high of £10 million.

In other Gunners news, holding midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong will not be offered a new contract when his current one expires in the summer. The 21-year-old is expected to be loaned out during the winter transfer window.
