Kim Kallstrom is poised to join Arsenal on loan until the end of the season as the Gunners bolster their threadbare midfield to challenge for their first Premier League title in over a decade. With both Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere consigned to the treatment table it's hoped the Swedish midfield can fill in for either of the injured duo as Arsenal's title bid gathers pace, and in the short-term replace Mathieu Flamini the Frenchman is currently suspended following his dismissal against Southampton. Talking to the BBC, Wenger explained:
"We've been hit by the red card of Flamini and Jack Wilshere is also not available so in the area where we had plenty of players, suddenly we are a bit short."
Those comments followed earlier words to the club's official Twitter feed, lamenting the loss of Ramsey Wenger is taking a pessimistic view of the Welshman's thigh injury, making the need for replacements more urgent. He said:
"Aaron Ramsey will be out for four to six weeks. I count six weeks we are still trying to bring one body in because of Ramsey's setback and Flamini's suspension. "We are open minded and active and will look at opportunities. We will try to bring one in. We are suddenly a bit short."
However, that 'one' is unlikely to be Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler the Arsenal boss ruled out the move, insisting that the deal was made up by the media and there was no move was discussed.
