Arsenal Transfer News: Mathieu Flamini Return Confirmed

have confirmed the signing of Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer. The 29-year-old Frenchman has signed a three-year deal worth a reported £50,000 a week to the former AC Milan, who re-joins The Gunners for a second spell. The versatile midfielder, who according to Arsenal.com made 153 appearances for Arsenal from 2004 to 2008, spent 5 years at the Italian club, and won a Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2011 with the iconic Milanese outfit. A dearth of fit midfielders due to a slew of injuries, combined with the midfielder's availability, had made the signing likely. Flamini had been training with the squad for a number of weeks following his release by AC Milan Arsene Wenger said of the Frenchman's signing;

"We're very pleased Mathieu has agreed to re-join us. He is a player of real quality, with a fantastic work rate and great mentality. As we know, Mathieu is a strong midfielder, but is also is comfortable playing in defence too. He is a very good addition to our squad."
Flamini becomes only Arsenal's second new addition in this summer's transfer window, after fellow free transfer signing Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre, who is yet to start for the Gunners.
