Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Targeting Angel Di Maria & Demba Ba

Arsenal are currently in advanced talks with German midfielder Mezut Ozil, who would sign in a club-record deal for £42.5m, and French manager Arsene Wenger is also looking to sign one of his team-mates to boost his options after a quiet transfer window. According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid are looking to reclaim some of the money they have just spent on world record signing Gareth Bale, and recouping the £42.5m from Ozil would be a good start, that could be supplemented by a move by winger Angel di Maria to Arsenal. The Star say that Wenger has more than £70m to spend and that he will also try and bring di Maria to the Emirates, which would cost around £25m, according to the Star's valuation of the player. It could well be a massive final day for Arsenal, who are also being linked with Palermo forward Abel Hernandez, and Chelsea striker Demba Ba, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge after the signing of Samuel Eto'o. Wenger spoke to the Telegraph to confirm that they might have some surprises to unveil - including possible a bid for Karim Benzema, according to the paper, though he wants to stay - and his words might well please Arsenal fans who still want to see additions to the squad:
"I'm ready to pay what we can afford, even if it's a bit over the mark, as long as it's not crazy. I'm not against spending but I want to add super quality to our squad. With 24 more hours maybe we can surprise you, maybe not. You will tell me that I'm always confident and I've delivered very little until now, but I'm confident, yes. Tottenham got a lot of money for Gareth Bale and they have to invest it, I can understand that, but the need is different for us. We need one or two super players and we've tried to add that."
