6. Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos was perhaps the finest left-back of his generation. The Brazilian made 125 appearances for his country, and was part of their famous 2002 team that lifted the grand prize.

World Cup winning Carlos claimed joining Arsenal would be a 'dream', and hinted strongly at a move to North London when his Real Madrid contract expired. The powerful left-back instead ended up signing a two-year deal with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.

Though The Gunners never captured the Brazilian, they were instead treated to Andre Santos in 2011 - the man dubbed the next Roberto Carlos. Santos never lived up to that tag, and left Arsenal after 33 appearances.
