The man that stands as the Premier League's most expensive import almost joined The Gunners for free as a 17 year-old. Arsene Wenger confirmed he tried to sign the Argentina International in his teen years, but failed to get a work permit. 

He instead went to Benfica in Portugal, before big money moves to Real Madrid, Manchester United and most recently PSG. Di Maria has 66 caps for Argentina at just 27 years of age, and in spite of a poor spell at Manchester United, he is regarded as one of the most talented players on the planet.
