Arsenal fans have been desperate to see a genuine anchor man sign for the club in recent years. Though the popular choice is Portugal's William Carvalho, the Sporting man has a fractured tibia and will be out of action for three months. Francis Coquelin has impressed playing deep in midfield since returning from his loan spell at Charlton, but the general consensus is that The Gunners need a player proven at the highest level in that position.

Sven Bender is very much considered the more defensive-minded of the two Bender brothers, with his brother Lars plying his trade with Bayer Leverkusen. The Dortmund defensive-midfielder has been capped seven times by Germany at the age of 26.

Standing at 6'1 tall, Sven Bender is known for his work rate and ability to break up play efficiently, whilst playing a simple passing game. For all the attacking talent Arsenal have, they are quite often vulnerable on the counter-attack when pushing forward.

A water carrier in front of the back four might just help to prevent The Gunners becoming exposed when they commit numbers forward. It will also allow Arsenal to play a more defensive game away from home against the big teams, as we saw them do in their 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad last season.
