Luiz Gustavo has been linked with Chelsea in recent times, though nothing concrete ever came of the rumours. The Brazilian international plays for Wolfsburg as a defensive midfielder, having also made more than 60 appearances for Bayern Munich.

His pedigree is unquestionable, having been both a Champions League and Bundesliga winner, as well as having represented Brazil on 33 occasions. Similarly to Sven Bender, Gustavo prefers to play a simple passing game, and has made a name for himself as an excellent reader of the game and strong tackler.

Though Wolfsburg would probably demand a substantial fee for their anchor man, the 27-year old would provide the strong presence in front of the back four that Arsenal so badly need.
