Arsenal Transfers: 10 Replacements For Robin Van Persie

9. Hatem Ben Arfa

Club: Newcastle United Value: £15m Another player who doesn't necessarily fit the striker bill, but who would offer an entirely different dimension to the Arsenal attack. Ben Arfa is arguably one of the most naturally skilled dribblers in the Premier League, fearless when approached by opposition defenders, possessing an excellent finish and a natural flair for crossing. Were it not for his occasionally questionable attitude - which Alan Pardew seems to have kept under control since he joined Newcastle - and that almost career-ending injury, Ben Arfa could well have been one of the brightest talents in Europe. He may still be, and before he becomes an unattainable property to all but the very richest of teams, Arsenal would do well to try to bring the prodigious Frenchman on board. The problem for anyone trying to pick up any of Newcastle United's star players is that Mike Ashley is a self-confessed "difficult seller", who will only see his players leave if the kind of money that took Andy Carroll away from the club last January - or in other words, silly money. As long as those players fit the Newcastle model for players - relatively young, talented and with the best years ahead of them, they will not be sold without a monumental struggle and a good deal of money. So even though Ben Arfa is probably only worth between £10m and £15m, thanks to that horrific injury back in 2010/11 against Man City, with his form coming close to meeting his potential, that value is likely to be pushed further up, especially if he can recapture some of the mesmerizing form of last season. And Newcastle will not want to lose one of their star attacking assets for anything other than an astronomical fee, so expect any deal to come in at higher than market value.
