Arsenal Transfers: 10 Replacements For Robin Van Persie

10. No-One

Who's to say that Van Persie's replacement isn't already on the books at Arsenal? With Arsene Wenger atypically quick to bring in both Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud in an early flourish of business at the start of the window, it appeared the writing was already on the wall in regard to the Van Persie situation. He might have waited until after a disappointing Euro 2012 to play his cards, in typically destructive fashion, but he and Arsene Wenger will have known well before then that the player had no intention of signing on for an extended period at the Emirates, and that's exactly why Wenger moved so swiftly to bring in both Giroud and Podolski. The manager is not exactly the most famed of big spenders, even when funds are available, and regardless of the injection of £25m or so that will come when Van Persie eventually leaves, he may well see the current crop of available players as sufficient. Even without Van Persie, Arsenal will be in a stronger position in terms of numbers heading into next season - they now have two more recognisable central strikers to vie for Van Persie's slot, as well as the same peripheral and wider options. If Arsene Wenger again goes for a 4,3,3 variant formation for next term he will have to accommodate both Giroud and Podolski - neither of whom are likely to favour being pushed out wide for the good of the team - as well as Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho and emerging talent Ryo Miyaichi, who would presumably prefer to play out wide (provided they all stay at the club this summer). And that's not to mention Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner, Ju-Young Park or Marouane Chamakh, all of whom remain on the books as back-up to the first team until they are moved on (as at least three of them look likely to be). It isn't inconceivable that Wenger won't invest any of the Van Persie money in a new striker, especially considering the investment that is needed elsewhere in the squad and funds for those necessary acquisitions potentially limited to what Wenger can bring in. So what do you think Arsenal fans? Which of these suggested replacements would you like to see added to the Arsenal squad? Did we miss any? Share your thoughts below...
