Arsenal Transfers: 10 Strikers Arsene Wenger Must Sign Before Window Shuts
2. Romelu Lukaku
No introductions are necessary for Romelu Lukaku - Premier League audiences know all about the burly Belgian.
Considering his mature physique and goalscoring prowess, it’s hard to believe he only just turned 23 in May. Indeed, the former Chelsea forward is just the fifth player in Premier League history to rack up 50 strikes before that age. Despite his occasional bouts of inconsistency - playing in an Everton team who seem to pride themselves on it can’t help - the Belgian has a marvellous goalscoring record and is an in-demand striker this summer. But he will cost more than a pretty penny.
It’s likely that if Lukaku is to return to London, either Chelsea or Arsenal will have to fork out a club record transfer free to do so. Reports suggest that Everton are holding out for £75 million, but if the Belgian international starts to kick up a fuss - something John Stones has yet to do - the Everton owners may be forced to re-evaluate.
While he is cut from the same cloth as Olivier Giroud in that they are both physical hold-up men, the beastly Belgian would be a significant upgrade and would guarantee something the Frenchman can’t on a regular basis - goals.
