Arsenal Transfers: 10 Strikers Arsene Wenger Must Target This Summer

9. Diego Costa

Another, albeit unlikely option for Arsene Wenger in his recruitment drive for new strikers is Atletico Madrid's in-demand forward Diego Costa. Costa has just enjoyed a marvellous season with Atletico, with his 27 La Liga goals in 35 appearances firing his club to their first Spanish league title since 1996. Bought from Rayo Vallecano in 2012, the Brazil-born Spain international has stepped out of Radamel Falcao's shadow to emerge as Atleti's new goal hero, and is being courted by a series of clubs including Chelsea. Costa has a massive £31 million release clause and Arsenal are hopeful of scuppering the Blues' attempts to sign the forward, and are set to rival their London foes for his signature this summer. However, Chelsea are considered the favourites to land the goal machine, and the Gunners' interest in the striker must at this stage be considered fanciful with the Blues capable of outbidding the Emirates outfit in any potential tug of war.
