2. Medals
Van Persie only has two winners medals the 2002 Uefa Cup with Feyenoord, and the 2005 FA Cup with Arsenal. For a player of his undoubted talent that is a poor return, and after seven trophyless years at the Emirates the Dutch star may feel it is time to fill that medal cabinet. Off the back of their maiden Premiership win, City look set to dominate for the next five, ten, maybe twenty years. There will be plenty of competition for sure, but no one in England, not even Roman Abramovich, can match the resources of Sheikh Mansour. Samir Nasri picked up his first league title at City, and van Persie could follow his former Arsenal team mate.
3. From Great to Greatest?
Robin van Persie is a very good player. 132 goals in 279 games for Arsenal, 29 goals in 68 games for the Netherlands, PFA Players Player of the Year, PFA Fans Player of the Year, Football Writers Player of the Year. In England he is heralded, in Europe he is well known, but as of yet he has not moved into the top bracket, the World Class tag that goes with players who have won Leagues, Champions Leagues, World Cups. If van Persie makes the wrong move he may be left wondering if he really fulfilled his potential. City represents his best chance to make a mark on the European and global stage. He still has at least three years at the highest level, time to compete for the Golden boots and the Ballon DOr, and really cement his status as a legend.
