Arsenal Transfers: 5 Blockbuster Signings To Compete In Champions League

2. Juan Mata

Juan Mata2 Arguably the biggest blockbuster signing Arsene Wenger could make this summer in order to compete in the Champions League is Chelsea's apparently-unwanted Juan Mata. One of Chelsea's best players last season, Mata has yet to start a Premier League game this season and was left out of the squad that faced Manchester United on Monday, raising serious question marks over his long-term future. Rumours of a rift between the Spain international and manager Jose Mourinho persist, and Arsenal could take advantage of the apparent unrest by making a bid. Today, we reported the Gunners are considering making an offer for Mata, though Atletico Madrid are keen to hand the former Valencia man a return to Spain by taking him on loan, and could provide competition. Mata has won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea since joining in 2011 and would provide Wenger with tons of experience when it comes to European football. He's also won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, and shouldn't have to settle for a substitute role at Chelsea.
