Arsenal Transfers: 5 Dream Deadline Deals Wenger Must Make

5. Ashley Williams

Ashley Williams One area that definitely needs work on is in the central defensive area as cover for current options Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen. Vermaelen however is currently stricken and the other two need some competition for places After Koscielny's red in the season opener against Aston Villa, Carl Jenkinson, usually a full back, was drafted in to partner Mertesacker in the comfortable 3-1 victory against Fulham. And even though the scoreline may have suggested he may have done well in this auxiliary position, he is primarily a full back and needs to provide sustained competition there. So, Wenger may opt for long term target Ashley Williams. The Welshman, who is renowned for his tackling and reading of the game may provide some much needed guidance and organisation to a defence that has been prone to mistakes in the past. The player himself is flattered by the link and may not ever get an opportunity to play in the Champions League ever again, so if Arsenal can meet Swansea's valuation then their captain may sway towards a new start at the North London club.
