Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Arsene Wenger Could Have Signed But Didn't

4. Christopher Samba

samba Arsenal have been screaming out for a commanding centre-back for ages now and it is baffling that Wenger hasn't added one. Arsenal's defence lacks steel at present and looks just a little bit flimsy. A disciplinarian like Tony Adams is precisely what the Gunners need right now, and many will remember with fondness the "famous four" of Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Steve Bould and Adams that lined up in Arsenal's defence once upon a time. Does Koscielny compare to the likes of these? How about Squillaci? It is just perplexing Wenger hasn't replaced either of these, especially given that Christopher Samba turned out to be available all along despite joining Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala just last year. He ended up getting snapped up by the Premier League's basement side QPR in a club-record £12.5 million deal. Why on earth Wenger didn't make a move for him will never be known, but his presence would certainly have been much welcomed at the Emirates. Source(s): Guardian
