Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players They Must Sign

3. James Tarkowski (Burnley)

Burnley aren't exactly a fashionable club to most people, but there's no disputing just how brilliant Sean Dyche's men have been at the back for the past several seasons.

There may have been an initial defensive wobble at the beginning of last season - largely due to Joe Hart's presence between the sticks - but Messrs Mee and Tarkowski soon began to shine once their relationship with Tom Heaton was reignited. As a trio, those three are responsible for so much of what makes Burnley such an efficient and tough-to-break-down side.

While Ben Mee may have not had a sniff of international football, 26-year-old James Tarkowski managed to nab his first two England caps last season. A strong, dominating rock at the back for Burnley, the centre-half should be a regular in Gareth Southgate's England squad for years to come.

At The Emirates, Arsenal are currently undergoing all kinds of problems when it comes to their centre-backs. Skipper Laurent Koscielny has gone AWOL as he attempts to force a move back to his homeland in France, Shkodran Mustafi has this week been the subject of interest from Monaco, and recent signing William Saliba has been loaned back to Saint-Etienne for a season.

Right now, Arsenal could be shaping up to start the 2019/2020 season with only Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Konstantinos Mvaropanos as their recognised and match fit centre-backs.

Defensive additions are a must for Arsenal in this window - and signing James Tarowksi would be a brilliant bit of business.
