Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Wenger Must Sign Diego Costa

4. £32m Is A Small Price To Pay In Order To Secure The EPL Title

The fact that Costa has a £32m buyout written into his contract makes this all very handy for Wenger €“ in theory this deal should be easy enough to conclude. I don€™t think there is any question about his ability €“ and I can€™t be the only one that thinks in the current market the price is actually fairly cheap. Who Scored data clearly shows that Arsenal has all in all had an excellent season, but perhaps lack a bit in the goalscoring stakes. Oliver Giroud and Aaron Ramsey have both scored eight goals apiece €“ but it€™s certainly open to debate that the Premier League champions need a player scoring a bit more than that. This theory has further depth to it when we compare how the Gunners have performed as an attacking force with Liverpool and Manchester City. Arsenal has scored 39 goals in the league this season with Liverpool scoring 46, and Man City grabbing 57. Furthermore, both of Arsenal€™s title rivals have goalscorers in Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero €“ the need for Wenger to add his own is pretty great in the grand scheme of things. Further data shows that the Gunners are lagging behind in terms of shots per game of 14.8 €“ which is only the seventh best in the league. Certainly strange numbers for the team that is top of the league €“ and arguably with the most creative player in the league with Mesut Ozil. Perhaps the reasons for this is they don€™t have a player that gets on the end of Ozil€™s brilliance enough, so Costa could well prove to be the missing link.
