Arsenal Transfers: 6 Strikers Wenger Must Sign Before Deadline Day

6. Danny Welbeck

With Oliver Giroud facing a lay-off until Christmas, Danny Welbeck has emerged as a potential target to help improve manager Arsene Wenger's forward line. The Manchester United attacker is on the fringes at Old Trafford and is behind the likes of Wayne Rooney and former Arsenal forward Robin van Persie in the pecking order. Welbeck has reportedly been told by Reds boss Louis van Gaal that he is free to go this summer having been deemed surplus to requirements at the Theatre of Dreams, and this has attracted the Gunners, their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Everton - though they have just signed Samuel Eto'o and may no longer be in the market. That would leave Arsenal and Spurs in a straight shootout for the England international's services, though United may be unwilling to sell a player of Welbeck's abilities to one of their main rivals. Nevertheless, the Gunners did sell them van Persie two summers ago and relations have recently thawed between the two sides, meaning this one is a distinct possibility, if not slightly unlikely.
