Arsenal Transfers: Is £30 Million Luis Suarez Bid Actually A Cunning Plan To Get Gonzalo Higuain?
odds have shortened on a bet that previously would have seemed, and still almost does, ludicrous - that of Luis Suárez being linked with a transfer to Arsenal. The supposed "£30 million bid" for the Uruguayan striker was tabled by Arsenal after talks hit a snag with Real Madrid over their top transfer target, Gonzalo Higuaín. Following several explicit rants to the Uruguayan press from Luis Suárez about the English media, the bid came as a shock to many - especially considering that the striker admitted he is "flattered" by the interest and insisted that Arsenal is "an option" for him. But there might seem to be a method to the madness a cunning plan - one that would suit Suárez and Arsenal alike. In fact, their interest in the Liverpool striker might be completely bogus. Recent reports from Spain have suggested that Madrid will only sell Higuaín to Arsenal provided they have a replacement lined up. The genuine interest shown by Arsenal for Luis Suárez - indicated by an official £30 million bid for the player - may well be invented as a way of triggering Madrid to make a bid for Suárez, thus providing Arsenal with an opportunity to sign their preferred target, Gonzalo Higuaín. What's more, the interest shown by Suárez himself only acts to further enforce the possibility that Real Madrid could miss out on their man. Albeit only a conspiracy, the situation adds up. The bid from Arsenal, provided it is in fact fake, would not only suit the club but also Suárez, and, to some extent, Liverpool - who, having rejected a £30 million bid for the striker, will now be insisting on a higher bid from Madrid. Suárez has until the 21st of July to return to Liverpool pre-season training, so don't be surprised if we see the two coinciding deals materialise any time soon. What do you think?
