Arsenal Transfers News: Gunners Make Papiss Cisse Offer

Papiss Cisse 8 Arsene Wenger's frenzied attempts to bring in a new striker continue, as Sky Sports have confirmed that Arsenal have followed up their failed attempts to sign both Lille's Salomon Kalou and Lazio's Miroslav Klose on loan with another temporary offer for a forward. The latest target is Newcastle United's misfiring Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse, who had been subject to a bid from an unnamed Middle Eastern club and a £6.6m bid from Turkish side Trabzonspor, and who Wenger has made an offer to loan for the remainder of the season. Cisse has been in poor form for the Magpies so far this season, and Alan Pardew's side's only incoming business of the window saw Dutch striker Luuk De Jong brought in on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach. Despite that, and the assumed implication that Cisse will now find himself further down the pecking order at Newcastle, the loan offer for Cisse was turned down. Sky Sports suggest that Newcastle are interested in a permanent deal, but quite whether Cisse's recent form has been enough to deem him worthy of the sort of fee Newcastle would no doubt demand remains to be seen. With just over an hour and a half of the window remaining, it looks as though the odds of Arsenal bringing in a striker to bolster their attack, and to follow loan signing Kim Kallstrom into the club are stacked against Wenger. Cardiff City were also said to have had a loan bid for the Senegalese striker, who is currently out injured, turned down. Do you think Cisse would be a good move for Arsenal?
