Aston Villa v Newcastle: 5 Key Battles
1. Gabby Agbonlahor vs Mathieu Debuchy Gabby Agbonlahor has been a constantly promising Premier League player for so long. He has always had an abundance of talent and of course his blistering pace. He has been invigorated under Paul Lambert and was a key part of the team's excellent form at the tail end of last season. He has continued that form into this season and similarly to team mate Fabian Delph, much talk of an England call up has been uttered. This is rightly so and the Villa players will very much be looking to build upon this early season form. I think Gabby Agbonlahor can be the difference in this contest especially facing up against a somewhat inconsistent Mathieu Debuchy down Newcastle's right. He is quick and very tricky and it will be very interesting to see just how this battle pans out. Newcastle fans were very excited to see Debuchy in the team at first but inconsistency has blighted his fledgling Newcastle career to date. He has a point to prove and should be up for this game after the break in club football. He has a tendency to dive in to tackles and this could be a very dangerous thing to do against a player of Agbonlahor's speed. If Debuchy were to get an early yellow card he would be under a lot of pressure for the remainder of the game, something im sure Paul Lambert may well have pointed out to his team. In my opinion this will be the biggest battle of the day and time will tell which way this one pans out.
