Barcelona Appoint Tito Vilanova As Permanent Manager

Barcelona have announced that assistant coach Tito Vilanova will succeed Pep Guardiola as the permanent manager of the Catalan giants. The 42-year-old is a surprise choice but the appointment does follow Barcelona's philosophy of hiring from within. Vilanova was assistant coach during Guardiola's tenure as manager and the Barca board will be hoping he can deliver the same trophy success as his former boss. Pep Guardiola quit as Barcelona boss head coach today after four successful years in charge but on the backs of failing to deliver another Champions League and La Liga title after being unable to defeat Chelsea or Real Madrid at the Nou Camp this past week. The news of Vilanova's appointment came at the press conference just moments after Guardiola resigned. Vilanova came through the ranks at the Barcelona academy with Pep Guardiola and worked alongside him at Barcelona B before moving into his current position in 2008 when Guardiola initially became boss.
