Spurs aren't exactly renowned for their holding midfielders, but the ones they've had have usually earned international recognition. Michael Carrick, Didier Zokora, Sandro, Nabil Benataleb and Sandro are some of those who have - and there aren't that many decent ones who haven't. Benjamin Stambouli has just joined Spurs - literally making his move official on the last day of the summer transfer window on Monday - and has yet to appear for them yet - in much the same way he has yet to play for France. Most people in England aren't particularly familiar with the defensive midfielder, but he is undoubtedly a top player and it's a mystery why he hasn't earned a senior international cap for France yet. Stambouli came through the ranks at Montpellier in his homeland and has spent his entire professional career at the club. He was a key part of their title-winning side in the 2011-12 season when he was a team-mate of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud. Last season, he played in 37 of Montpellier€™s 38 league games and built a solid reputation as a tenacious player who is also very good on the ball. He has scored three goals in 84 league starts for Montpellier in total. He was also wanted by Swansea City, Fiorentina and Marseille prior to joining Spurs and he will definitely be hoping the step up to the Premier League will gain him some international recognition.
