Bobby Robson's 5 Worst Newcastle United Signings

2. Carl Cort

Signed for £7 million from Wimbledon in 2000, Cort appeared to have all the attributes needed to make it at the top. A great start to his Newcastle career saw him score on his St James' Park debut against Derby, but the tall striker soon became a regular fixture in the treatment room. When he eventually did return to the team sheet in his first campaign with the club, he notched five goals in the last 10 games of the season and it looked as though things were looking up for the Londoner. However, early in the next season, knee and ankle injuries saw him sidelined for long periods and he was never able to get a run together to prove his worth. United decided enough was enough and cut their losses as Cort was sold in 2004 to Wolves for a mere £2 million, but yet again injuries plagued the frontman and what was once a promising career was dwindling into nothingness.
