5. Hung, Drawn & Quartered?
If you take those home and away performances together and look at the Bluebirds' overall campaign in this their first Premier League season, then it does not make good reading. Mackay has managed little more than winning a quarter of the matches played this term. Five wins from 19 in all competitions is a ratio of 26.3% - hardly anything to write home about. Looking just at the 17 league games the picture is worse. Four wins works out at just less than a quarter (23.5%). Translating that into points, should this rate of about one victory in every four continue that only accounts for 28.5 on the board. If you add in the draws which are happening slightly more frequently than wins at present there are a further 11.5 points to the Cardiff cause. Based on this data from the first half of the season, fans can hope that Mackay would steer the Bluebirds to the magic 40 points mark. That figure has almost always been enough to secure top flight survival. This more or less reflects Cardiff's current average of a point per game. Staying up is all that is required of any team in their maiden Premier League campaign, so Tan taking away the immediate threat of axing Mackay looks justified here.
