Cardiff City New Manager: 5 Men To Replace Malky Mackay

4. Sven-Goran Eriksson

Ex-England manager Eriksson may be tempted back to the Premier League with the Welsh side because he has worked with Far Eastern owners before. Sven was Manchester City boss under the club's previous regime headed up by one-time Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra. Eriksson, 65, is currently in charge of Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou R&F and boasts a coaching career which began some 36 years ago in his native Sweden. There could scarcely be a more experienced candidate for Cardiff to turn to. Giving Eriksson the job may not be for the long haul, however. Perhaps the mission would be a stabilizing one to establish the Bluebirds in the top flight before retirement. Tan would be hoping Sven could replicate the successes he had at Benfica and Lazio rather than more recent failures with Mexico and Leicester City. If Cardiff do go in for Eriksson they will have to pay compensation as he is under contract in China until the end of 2014. The Bluebirds hierarchy would have to weigh up whether this is really worth the investment and €“ given their reluctance to spend further on playing staff €“ there is little to suppose a change of policy when it comes to recruiting coaches.
