Celtic: 10 Incredible Stats You Won’t Believe From The SPL Era

4. The (Almost) Invincibles

Arsenal's "Invincibles" team from 2003/04 when they went an entire season undefeated is often lauded as one of the finest achievements in British football and Celtic could have been up there had it not been for a freak result at a snowy Pittodrie, 3 days before Christmas. A Celtic team of Douglas, Balde, Mjallby, Valgaeren, Petrov, Lennon, Lambert, Thompson, Larsson and Sutton went down 0-2 thanks to goals from Aberdeen's Robbie Winters and Darren Mackie. Whether the weather played its part, Celtic fans may never know, but given that the game had to be stopped for a period because Stilyan Petrov and Alan Thompson were being pelted by snowballs, it's safe to say conditions weren't great. Celtic managed to win 33 of their 38 games on the way to the title which they won by 18 points from nearest rivals Rangers. They clinched the title with a 5-1 win over Livingston with 4 games to spare.
